About Fluoride

    What Is Fluoride Treatment?

Fluoride treatment is a quick and painless procedure that helps strengthen your child’s tooth enamel and protect against cavities. It involves applying a concentrated fluoride solution directly to the teeth during a regular dental visit.

    Why It’s Important for Kids

Children are especially vulnerable to tooth decay as their teeth develop. Fluoride helps by making their enamel more resistant to acid attacks from plaque, bacteria, and sugars in the mouth.

    Safe and Effective Protection

Our fluoride treatments are safe, effective, and approved by the American Dental Association. They provide added protection beyond regular brushing and flossing, especially for kids at higher risk of cavities.

    How Often Is It Needed?

Most children benefit from fluoride treatments every six months, but the frequency can vary based on individual needs. During your child’s visit, we’ll recommend the best schedule to help keep their smile strong and healthy.

    🦷 The Fluoride Process

    1. Initial Dental Assessment

Before starting any fluoride treatment, your dentist performs a thorough dental exam to assess your teeth and determine your cavity risk. This step ensures the fluoride application is customized to your specific oral health needs.

    2. Teeth Cleaning and Preparation

Your dentist or hygienist will professionally clean your teeth to remove plaque and tartar. This allows the fluoride to bond effectively to the enamel, maximizing the treatment’s protective benefits.

    3. Application of Fluoride

The fluoride is applied directly to your teeth using a gel, foam, varnish, or rinse. These concentrated formulas contain a high level of fluoride to strengthen tooth enamel and reverse early signs of tooth decay.

    4. Short Absorption Period

After application, you’ll be asked to avoid eating, drinking, or rinsing for at least 30 minutes. This short waiting period allows the fluoride to fully absorb and provide long-lasting protection against cavities.

    5. Post-Treatment Recommendations

Your dentist will offer aftercare tips and may recommend a schedule for regular fluoride treatments based on your oral health. Consistent fluoride treatments can significantly reduce your risk of tooth decay and strengthen enamel over time.

We absolutely LOVE this office. Dr. Troy and his staff are incredible. So sweet with my kids and incredibly skilled at making sure everyone is comfortable and happy. This was an especially big deal for my son who gets severe anxiety about new situations. The second we walked in the door my son was put at ease and made to feel safe and comfortable. As a mom, this was just priceless. (Not to mention, a super fun, clean waiting room) I would highly recommend this office to ANYONE. 100%.
