Parent Guide
Welcome to The Ultimate Parent Guide by Peak Pediatric Dentistry. We understand that as parents, you strive to make the best decisions for your child’s health and well-being. This guide is designed to help you navigate the dental care journey, ensuring your child’s smile stays bright and healthy through every stage of their development.
Starting Your Child’s Dental Journey
🍼 Early Years (0-2 Years)
- Why come in:
First tooth means first visit—no later than age 1. This helps us catch growth issues early and avoid more serious treatments or sedation later. - How to clean:
Clean teeth and gums twice daily using a soft towel, washcloth, or silicone brush after bath time (see image). When back teeth arrive, switch to a traditional toothbrush. If fluoride toothpaste is used, keep it to a grain-of-rice size and only if your child is at high risk for cavities. - Habits to watch:
Floss any teeth that touch. Early visiting drastically reduces the chance of needing IV sedation or full-mouth treatment.
👶🏼 Building Habits (3-6 Years)
- Why come in:
We check for spacing, bite alignment, and early signs of decay—catching issues now keeps care easy and affordable. - How to clean:
Parents should do most of the brushing and flossing, especially those back molars (see image of parent-child brushing). A “you brush mine and I’ll brush yours” routine supports independence while ensuring good care. - Habits to watch:
Watch out for processed snacks and sugary drinks—not brushing eliminates their damage. Thumb and pacifier habits should stop by age 3 to prevent bite and jaw issues.
🧒 Growth and Development (7-12 Years)
- Why come in:
Permanent teeth and molars are here—space, bite, and decay checks are key. Cavities between teeth can spread fast. - How to clean:
Most kids need help brushing at this stage. Emphasize flossing tight contacts to protect first molars (see image of kid flossing). - Habits to watch:
Keep an eye on mouth breathing and jaw growth. When there’s not enough room for adult teeth, we can start early orthodontics—no extraction drama later.
🧑🎓 Teenage Years (13+ Years)
- Why come in:
We’re monitoring wisdom teeth, retainer use, and ensuring orthodontic results last. - How to clean:
Supervision is still crucial—even with aligners or braces. Floss daily and keep a dry toothbrush on hand to remove food after meals to avoid white marks from braces. - Habits to watch:
Limit the frequency of soda, Swig, and energy drinks, even one daily can damage enamel quickly during orthodontic treatment. Encourage retainer hygiene and discourage regular sipping of sugary drinks.
We Accept Most Major Insurances
Insurance can be confusing, we get it. That’s why our team works hard to make it as simple as possible. We accept most major dental plans, including Medicaid, and we’ll help verify coverage, file claims, and give you treatment estimates up front. Just keep in mind, these are estimates. Every plan is different, and ultimately, it’s the patient’s responsibility to understand their own coverage.
Flexible Payment Options
For families without dental insurance or those needing additional financial flexibility, we offer a variety of convenient payment solutions. These include major credit cards, in-house financing, and third-party options like CareCredit. Our goal is to make pediatric dental care affordable and accessible for every family, without compromising quality.
Transparent and Supportive Care
We believe in clear communication when it comes to the cost of your child’s treatment. Before any procedure, we’ll provide a detailed estimate and review your insurance benefits and payment options. Our front desk team is always available to walk you through the process, ensuring there are no surprises just honest, supportive care from start to finish.
No Insurance? No Worries.
For just a little more than the cost of cleanings, our membership covers all preventative care exams, cleanings, X-rays, and emergency visits. Plus, get 40% or more off all treatments, with perks like whitening and orthodontic discounts.
